With the aim of ensuring better performance and offering much more accessible content on its website, the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training has relied on the Tech4access team for the implementation of the Siteimprove monitoring and control platform, a highly effective suite in web optimization.
Let’s remember that the Ministry plays a fundamental role in educational policy and vocational training in Spain, for this reason, it is vital that its website can be as optimal and accessible as possible for its users.
In this article, we will explain how Siteimprove is applied on the website of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, providing an improvement in the guidelines and recommendations for digital accessibility, content quality, and optimization of organic positioning (SEO).
Once the objectives for this specific project have been established, the Ministry has the following modules in its license:
Web Accessibility Module
Siteimprove offers a web accessibility module that continuously monitors and analyzes compliance with the accessibility guidelines established by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
This module ensures that the Ministry’s website complies with the digital accessibility regulations established in Royal Decree 1112/2018 and with the accessibility standards recommended in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
Through the generation of detailed reports, this module identifies non-conformities and provides the web technician with the necessary information to remedy the problems found in a very simple and intuitive way.
Content Quality Module
Content quality is essential to provide an enriching experience for users. The content quality module of Siteimprove plays a vital role in evaluating the content present on the website of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.
This module allows for periodic monitoring (every 7 days) performing various checks that will be executed both at the web level and on the hosted pdf documents ranging from the review of spelling errors (automatically identifying the language), identification of broken links, and even offers the possibility of carrying out a readability analysis ensuring that all web content (in its different formats) is legible and understandable for visitors.
SEO Module
Search engine optimization (SEO) is fundamental to increase the visibility, accessibility, and positioning of the Ministry’s website in search results.
Siteimprove provides an on-page SEO module that allows monitoring and ensuring that the structure and content of the page comply with the best practices recommended by search engines.
By using this module, the Ministry can improve its functionality, accessibility, and organic positioning in search results, thus increasing its online visibility.
Response Module
The Siteimprove response module provides an effective alert in case the website experiences a downtime.
This module constantly monitors the web, automatically sending email notifications to the administrator when a lack of response on the page is detected.
This allows for rapid detection and resolution of problems that may cause interruptions on the Ministry’s website, thus ensuring continuous availability for users.
How does Siteimprove work at the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training?
Siteimprove is a monitoring and tracking tool capable of periodically checking a web environment. Initially, the client decides the URLs on which they want to carry out the web optimization project and, together with the Tech4Access team, configures the scope of URLs.
Once the scope is defined, the platform will begin with its periodic crawls showing the results in an intuitive panel with scorings the current situation of each of the activated modules positioning on an indicator from 0-100 depending on their level of compliance or improvement.
Additionally, on the left side of the panel, you can independently select the modules where the detected problems are identified to directly access the error for its remediation from the same platform thanks to its integration with the content manager they use.
In case of accessibility problems, the WCAG guidelines are monitored in their 3 levels (A, AA, AAA), WAI-ARIA, and good practices in accessibility.
Furthermore, unlike other tools, Siteimprove allows us to check not only automatic guidelines but also provides a guided assistant capable of identifying some errors based on a series of established questions.
As the identified problems are solved, the index increases, indicating in green the optimal state of each module of the website.
Siteimprove ensures greater accessibility and content quality on your website
With the implementation of Siteimprove, the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training guarantees complete control of its digital channels, monitoring the environment at all times and optimizing performance, improving the level of accessibility and content quality on its website.
