Coming into effect on 20 September 2018 and transposing European Directive 2016\/2012, these regulations called for <\/span><b>website accessibility compliance by 20 September 2020<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insuit.net\/blog\/royal-decree-1112-2018-mobile-apps-web-accessibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mobile application accessibility<\/a> by 23 June 2021<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These regulations place special focus on <\/span><b>eliminating any barriers to accessibility that may exist on websites and apps<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their aim is to facilitate and ensure that everyone is able to exercise their right to access <\/span><b>public services and information<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> provided via digital technology.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is without a doubt the result of technological evolution, which has been setting the standard when it comes to the need to close the digital gap that has become more accentuated in recent years. Against this backdrop, <\/span><b>web accessibility regulations and standards<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have undergone constant revamping at both the national and international levels.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The result of all this is that we need to seriously focus on the tasks needed to meet the various <\/span><b>requirements and recommendations issued by competent bodies in the field of web accessibility<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; the idea being to initiate actions that ensure <\/span><b>compliance in this regard<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Who needs to comply with Royal Decree 1112\/2018?<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Royal Decree 1112\/2018 <\/span><b>encompasses all public sector websites and mobile applications,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> involving this sector in both in its organisational and administrative capacities. Important consideration is given to the development, editing, and management of content published on the various websites of this sector.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Royal Decree <\/span><b>applies to the following areas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Central Government.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Autonomous Community Governments.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Local Government Bodies.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Public Sector Institutions.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Associations including administrations, institutions, entities, and other groups that are part of the Public Sector.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Department of Justice.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As can be seen, <\/span><b>the regulations apply to the public sector across the board, encompassing all public entities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That is why it is important to understand the corrective actions needed to comply with web accessibility.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What are the web accessibility requirements of Royal Decree 1112\/2018?<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to ensure full access to information and services and eliminate the different barriers that might exist on the Internet, the Royal Decree proposes compliance with the following standards:<\/span><b>&nbsp;<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guaranteed accessibility for users with disabilities and the elderly. The aim is to share content that is perceivable, understandable, operable, and robust.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accessibility should always be borne in mind throughout <a href=\"https:\/\/tech4access.com\/en\/most-common-errors-web-accessibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">content design<\/a>, management, maintenance, and updating processes.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Implementation of actions that increase accessibility taking into account the minimum accessibility level required in each case.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Up to this point we have touched upon everything that involves accessibility for websites, <\/span><b>but how do we ensure accessibility for mobile applications?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"847\" height=\"565\" src=\"https:\/\/tech4access.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/cumplir-real-decreto-11122018-app-web.jpg\" alt=\"Just attention. This, coupled with the growing need for people to be permanently connected to digital platforms.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This reality is shared with <\/span><b>people with disabilities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>who face the greatest barriers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and as a result are excluded because their level of web accessibility is insufficient.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To this end, it is important that we consider the <\/span><b>basic concepts and principles of web accessibility<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at all times, which involves application design and the final software development.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Review and generation of web accessibility reports<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is where having sufficient technical knowledge takes on vital importance, as this is what contributes to <\/span><b>compliance with all the requirements of the spanish Royal Decree 1112\/2018<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This includes <\/span><b>thorough<\/b> evaluations of web accessibility and the generation of reports required by the <a href=\"https:\/\/administracionelectronica.gob.es\/pae_Home\/pae_Estrategias\/pae_Accesibilidad\/pae_observatorio_accesibilidad_eng.html?idioma=es\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spanish Web Accessibility Observatory<\/a>.<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> As well as an examination of the various processes and tools used to execute accessibility evaluations and actions throughout the apps\u2019 lifespan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We need to appreciate the importance of <\/span><b>accessibility in mobile applications and websites<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as this will always have a direct and positive benefit for society as a whole and not only people with disabilities.
